WHAT WE DO
The CARE Team is a campus-wide team of appointed staff and faculty responsible for identifying, assessing, and responding to concerns or disruptive behaviors by students, faculty and staff and other university community members.
The Care Team
| Purpose | Early intervention and holistic support for students showing signs of difficulty before issues escalate |
| Concerns | Academic struggles, homesickness, mild to moderate mental health concerns (e.g., stress, anxiety), roommate conflicts, financial strain, food insecurity, time management, adjustment to college life. |
| Approach | Collaborative, proactive, resource-connecting. Guidance towards campus/community support, monitor progress, and encourage wellness across multiple life areas. |
| Goal | Stabilize situations, promote student success and retention and prevent escalation to crisis. |
Care Core Team
| Purpose | More serious or potentially dangerous situations that may threaten a student's safety or community well-being |
| Concerns | More serious or potentially dangerous situations that may threaten a student's safety or community well-being |
| Approach | High-level case management, risk assessment, crisis response; coordination with law enforcement, counseling, or medical services |
| Goal | Ensure immediate safety, manage risk, and coordinate intensive interventions or emergency responses |
Mission Statement
The CARE Team is committed to promoting the safety, success, and well-being of the GCSU community by providing comprehensive support and intervention services. We also educate the community on the value of submitting referrals that allow for early intervention and risk assessment.
Our Goals
- Provide a safe and supportive physical and emotional environment for members of the university community.
- Gather, assess, and deploy interventions with individuals who demonstrate concerning or threatening behavior.
- Provide support and resources to university community members who are concerned for another individual.
